At the half-yearly . .meeting of the Gas Company it was stated that the profit was ,£69,366. A dividend of nine shillings per share was declared. The chairman said hp was at a loss to understand the recent attacks on tho company. It was absurd to say they could supply gas here as cheaply as in England. Labour and. machinery were dearer. They had made a reduction on January 1, and when the extensions at tho works wero i:i working order tho price would again como -under consideration.
