HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Onr Special Correspondent.) The Dominion Scouts and Heretaunga Mountpd .Kifles went into camp at Ilutt Park on Saturday, for" annual training. The men have not settled down yet to tho routine of camp life,,!but 'they will commence in earnest this.'morning. Yesterday was visiting day, a number of visitors going out during the afternoon. Tho Petono Municipal Band, rendered a programme of'music.
" On Saturday afternoon ..the semi-final and final events for a trophy presented by .Mr. J. W. Martin for the Petono Bowing Club's junior pairs were rowed off. The result was as follows:—Brunnetto (stroke) and Wilson (bow) beat Daly (stroke) and Hymons (bow) by two lengths, l'iual: Brunnctte. (stroke) and Wilson (bow) defeated Packard (stroke) and Clapham (bow). Packard did hot get away smartly, but nevertheless rowed a good race. Brunnetto won by two lengths.
Speaking in reference to ■ a motion passed at tho last meeting of the Ilutt Bovougli.. Council, tho chairman of the Tramway Board (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) states that in the course of a few weeks he would receive an offer from tho Edison Storage Battery Car Company to put down an 11-mile service for tho sum of X' 45,000. If the people of the tramway district wished to accept the offer find run the service on the Mimelines' as Christchurch (under the T'pamway Board) an opportunity would be- afi'orded them to do so. If not, then it was moro than probable that a company would boformed, to which tho board would delegate its powers under Section 42 of the Hutt Valley Tramways Act.
The annual members' meeting of tho Hutt No-Ijictiiso Leaguo was held on Friday evening, when tho following officers wero elected for tho ensuing year:—President, Rev. A. J. Seamer; vico-prcsidents, Revs, ltussell, Williams, Cottom, M'Caw, liotliwcll, and Harris, Adjutant-Marshall, Messrs. J. M. Leigh, .T. Woods, T. AVaugh, J. W. M'Ewan, and Mrs. M'Ewan, and also several other gentlemen subject to their acceptance; secretary, Mr. W. J. Wakelin; treasurer, 111-. Jas. M'Dotigall; convenors committees, Sirs. Faldcr and Mr. A. Wright; executivo committee, Messrs. Bryant, Ayson, R.' House, Allen, .Dclahunty, Lockwnnd, Piper, Mcsdamcs Battersby, and Miller. The Petono Municipal liand will play a programme of music on the water front to-night. Included in the prograinmo will be the' test selections "L'Africainc," and "Falstalf." ■ Tho Petono public schools will rc-open for tho first term of 1011 to-day. Mr. Foster and Mr. Lvnskoy will lie in attendance at tho Petone District High School (secondary school) from 7 to 9 o'clock to consult with parents as to tho various r.ouiscs. ;
