Thoy show that tho continental population of tho United States is 91,972,260, as compared with 75,500,000 in 1900. Tlio total population of all territories under tho American (lag is estimated to bo about 101,100,000. As far as tho United States proper is concerned, tho iiguro is larger than was expected. There has been a check in the decliuo of tho decennial percentage of increase, which since the unoccupied Western territory becamo more or, less settled has been revealed in recent enumerations. For the decade 1890 to 1900 tho percentage was 20.7, as compared with 30.1 for 1870 to 1880. For tho first ten years, of this century it is 21. Immigration, according to tho Director of the Census, is largely responsible for tho result. About 45 per cent, of tho population Will, he thinks, bo found to be urban. New York City has grown since 1900 from 3,437,202 to 4,766,883. The towns on the Pacific coast have also grown enormously, as have the new commercial centres in the .south, such as Atlanta and Birmingham..
