LIVE STOCK SALES.
Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report:—At our l'almerstou North sale yesterday wo had an exceptionally heavy yarding of sheep-and a medium yarding of cattle. Owing no doubt to the dry spell, which had not broken at the time of the sale, bidding for all classes of sheep was dull, especially bidding for lambs, but wo managed to quit almost everything nt prices slightly lower than last week. Cattle sold well at late rates. Wo quote :-Sheep: 400 four and six-tooth ewes on account of Mr. P. A. M'llardy, 15s. and 15s. Id.; aged cull ewes, 4s. id. to 5r,. 6d.: woolly lambs. 4s. 7d„ 6s. 6d„ 7s. 5d., 7s. 6t1., Bs. 4d. to 9s. 2d.; shorn lambs, small, 2s. 2d., 3s. to 3s. 5d.; good, 7s. 7d., 7s. 10d., to Bs. Id.; fat wethers, 14s. Id.; fat ewes, 12s. Id.; twotooth wethers, 10s. Cattle: 41 forward bullocks, on account of Mr. P. A. M'Hardy, £6 125.; eighteen-montbs steers, £3 to £3 175.; fat cows, £4 10s. to £5 165.; store cows, £2 to £3; bulls, £2 10s. to £3; wcancrs, 2Cs. to 315.; Jersey twenty-months heifers, £5 IGs.
Messrs. -Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report that at their Johnsonvillo sale, held yesterday, a large entry of sheon came forward, over 25C0 of all sorts being yarded. Oping to the dry weather prevailing lately th'era' was not much inquiry for. aped ewes, but young ewes, together with wethers, met a ready sale at pood price?. At the cud of the day very little remained unsold! Sheep'made the following prices:— Four.-tooth wethers, 13s. to 13s. 9d.; twotooth wethers, 12s. 4d. to 13s. 2d.; other J, 10s. Bd. to lis.; two-tooth ewes. 13s. 5d.; sixtooth f.f.m. ewes, lis. 6d.; f.m. ewes, lCs. 6d. to 10s. 9d. and Ss. to 95.: aged ewes, ss. to 6s. 6d.; lambs, 9s. 4d. to 9s. 6d.; small, 4s. to 55.; Romney rams, £1 Is. to £2 25.; Shropshire rams, £1 Is.; ajed rams, 10s. £d. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., report:'—At Palmsrston North on Thursday wo had a medium entry of both sheep and cattle, and effected a good clearance at the following rates:—Sheep: Store ewes. 9s. 3d. to 9s. 4d.: cull ewes, 3s. Cattle: Wcrmers, 31s. to £2 ?.s.; fat.cows, .£5 12s. 6d.; fat heifers, £5 18s.; fat'.and forward cows. £4 17s. Gd.; fat and forward heifers, £4 35.; heifers, in calf, £4 ss. ■RAM FAIRS. Mr. E. Erneßt Leighton reports that, at his annual ram fair held at Hutt on Tuesday, there tfas a largo attendance of buyers. ' and a keen demand for flock rams. The entry consisted entirely of Romncya, most of'which changed bands at satisfactory prices. Flock rams on account of Mr. E. J. Riddiford sold from 2 to 4J guineas. Mr. Allen's flock rams sold, at 2J guineas; other rams on account of various other owners from ono guinea to 25 guineas.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.! Napier, January 26. Tho annual ram fair under tho auspices of tho Hawke's Bay Agricultural and Pas(<iral Society started to-day on the Hastings Show Grounds. Thero was a good attendance. A featuro was the large number of liomneys—nearly cOCO, compared with 18C0 last year. Some were good, but many inferior, .and considering the quality . the prices were satisfactory. Flock Itomncys showed an sll-r.ound decrease, on last-year's values. Stud Romneys generally were' of pood quality,, the.top price being 100 guineas for a ram bred by Mr. Ernest Short, of Fcilding. In Lincolns-Mr., H. Wyboumo, of Whcnuakura, obtained the highest figure, 65 guineas. The sales effected are regarded as satisfactory considering the 'numbers and quality.
