From the Commonwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering 2-5,502 persons, and the departures thereto as 27,100 persons. Of the 35,769 persons who came to NewZealand last year, 3776. or 10'.5S per cent, of the total, were children—i.e.. under twelve years of age; and of tho 32.361 departures the children numbered 2700, or 8.34 per cent. ... In December, 1909, 5030 persons arrived and 2302 departed, which 6cems to indicate that the inflow of visitors from Australia—for- they constitute the majority of those. arriving here during the holiday months—has not been so great as is usual. . In December last 16 Chinese arrived, and 5 departed from New Zealand.
