LABOUR PARTY IN CONFERENCE.
THREE PREMIERS PRESENT. ALTERATIONS TO PARTY OBJECTIVE NEGATIVED. ADDRESS BY MR. VERRAN. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyrisnt. (liec. January 27, 0.15 a.m.) Sydney, January 2G. The conference of tho Political Labour League commenced to-day. There are 700 motions on -the business paper. Among those present at the opening were Mr. Fisher, head of tho Federal Labour Ministry, Mr. M'Gowen, the NewSouth Wales Labour Premier, and Mr. Verrau, the Labour Premier of South Australia. The three Premiers delivered congratulatory speeches on tho progress of the Labour movement. Mr. Verran. declared that lie and the other Labour Premiers would not allow themselves to suffer from "big bead," but would work together calmly for the benefit of the whole of the workers of Australia. After some opposition the.conference decided to admit the press. The congress negatived a resolution that for the present objective there be substituted the following:— "The development of a higher iudividriality and a clearer approximation to economic justice by the socialisation of industry and the wider diffusion of education." . Another amendment favouring the securing to workers of the full result of their skill and industry by Hie collective ownership of the means of production, distribution, and exchange, was also lost. v A committee was appointed to confer with the State Premier and' AttorneyGeneral, on tho question of ensuring that nominees to the Legislative. Council will vote to give effect to tho Labour platform.
The debate on the Federal referendum proposals is fixed for to-morrow.
