Dr. Alister Mackay, interviewed in regard to his projected journey, to tho Antarctic, stated that ho Vjill start for Grahamsland in August, and will be absent two years. A relief ship will meet the party at the Great Ice Barrier or at Hut Point, but if the ship-is ice-hound the. party will cross Ross's Ice Barrier for Shaekletou's or Scott's*Kuts in order to replenish supplies. Dr. Alister Mackay, the explorer* at the beginning of the month, submitted to the Royal Geographical Society plans to explore tho coast-lino of the Antarctic region from Graham Laud to King Edward VII Land-at a cost of .620,000. Graham Land lies to the South of South America, and King Edward VII Land is south of Australia. The possibility of working iu conjunction with Dr. W. S. Bruce, of the Scottish Oceanographical Department, who is planning another expedition to the Antarctic, was suggested. Dr. Mackay's proposed expedition was to. be restricted to six men, three sledges,', and 21 dogs. The party «;ould rely upon tho seals in the Wcdde] Sea for the greater part of their food and fuel.
