(From Our Special Correspondents.) i __ WOODVILLE. Miss Louie Dean, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Dean, was. married to Mr. C. Brock on Wednesday last. The A. and P. Show's meeting was well patronised hy the surrounding settlers, and an enjoyable day's outing was experienced. The exhibits were about the same in number as is usual, excepting in tho horsecompetition, which exceeded the entries of past years. The .. jumping... competitions took up a good deal of the day, and somo hue leaping was done by the winners. A popular win was that of "Barney," in the trotting niateh. This horse simply won as he liked; there, was nothing in the field that could conie up to him. Mr. Dogcart, the owner of "Barney," has several times refused big. offers for him. The pony race evoked a good deal of amusement from the manner in -which' the boys raced t'neii mounts. Miss Talley, when'riding to.Ballance on her bicycle the other day, met with a rather severe accident. The bicycle collided with a stone, throwing' Miss Tullej off. She sustained such injuries that sha had to remain by the roadside until a passer-by conveyed her home. CARTERTON. The long spell of dry weather, whica' was becoming serious* was broken yesterday afternoon, when welcome rain set it. It rained heavily towards evening, so much so that the water tables in. some parts of tho borough were insufficient to carry it away, and the road 3 in some places were something likf lakes. At a meeting held at Bunnythorpe ia connection with tho combined schools' annual excursion, representatives wero present from.Kelvin Grove, StoneyCreek, Colyton, Bunnythorpe, and Taonui. It was resolved to again make Plimmorton tho base of operations, Messrs. Espiner and Scheidt being appointed to make arrangements for a special train for Wednesday, February 25.

For somo years past (says the lobal paper) the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board has indignantly ncptested against. the action of. the Education' Department in deducting S.o from the allowance to Training College pupiU who are employed at relieving work: during tho college holidays. He contends that the deduction is illegal, and in a letter to the board, the Department now admits that it had no right to makethe deduction, but.. that regulations would" bo gazetted giving that right. The board- decided to ask the Government for refunds in all cases where such deductibns had been made.—

A conference is to be held between Mr. J. 6. Wilson (owner), a representative of. the Agricultural Department, and Mr. G. D. Braik (chief inspector for .' the Wanganui Education Board); in reference . to certain lands at Marton . Junction, which Mr. Wilson is giving for agricultural experiments. These- experiments are to be- made by the Agricultural De-.. partment and tho District High School pupils. OTAKI. Wednesday' proved a festive day fof tho Natives of the district, the' occasion being the wedding of Miss Mumaiti Te Waru, daughter of the well-known chieftain, and Mr. Himiona, of Feilding. Misses R.-meon, Drummoad, Heraa, and Kiriona were bridesmaids. ■ All were dressed in white, and cc.rried.. bouquets. Mr. Tohi Mahiiua was. best man. After the ceremony there was; a large reception at tho Town Hall. .... Mr. and Mrs. .'Skermnn, who have been on a tour of the .South Sea Islands,, have returned librae, pleased with their sojourn, i There are at present only ten patients in the Otaki Sanatorium. i Members .of .the Otaki congregation have decided to form a Wesley Guild, and th« following, officers have bemi elected-.—President, Est. Mr. Bands; vice-presidents, Messrs. Crsbb and Cockrell; secretary and treasurer, Mr; Farmery; committee, Mrs. . Parmerjv Misa Rands, Messrs. Goldsmith, Hughes, and Thomas. It-has been decided'to hold tho first meeting on-February 7. A return match. between the local bowlers and representatives of the Hataitai Club is being arranged for next month.
