THE SEDGWICK BOYS.

ADDRESSED BY THE MINISTER. No time is being lost by the Labour, Department in' dispatching the Sedgwicfc boys to those farms, the owners of which have agreed to take them under certein,' clearly-defined conditions. The ment is that they shall remain in tna employ of the contracting farmer for three ■ years, or until they, are twenty-one years ■••• of age, and' during that time the wages would-be from ss. to 10s. per week, and board and' lodging. ■ The Department will tale the boys' wages, less one shilling aweek, until such time as their passags money is paid, but the lads'will be learning the rudiments of farming, and be kept in comfort. . ■ ' The dairy farmers, were particularly keen on getting some of tho boys, but the Department considered that the boys would'.. get a better'and-more valuable-knowledga ■" on a general farm, and dairy farms exclusively are being barred as places for .the boys. ....

.Yesterday morning the boys were-, addressed by the Minister for Labour (the Hon. J. A. Millar) at the Labour Departs ment. The Minister, gave them a warm welcome, and some excellent advice on guiding principles. He pointed out the excellent opportunities . that,. were being offered them, and urged them fa do their bast wherever they were. The Labour. De< partment, which had their welfare al heart, was not going to lose sight of them | but on the other hand they-, must not worry the Department's officials with com< plaints which could not be substantiated. At the conclusion of his remarks the boyi I gave, the Minister three hearty cheers.
