Many years ago tho Natives . planted, under tho direction . of tho early mis'sioners, a portion of.tho alluvial, flat on this farm with willows, plums, quinces, etc., to which plantation Mr.: O'Shea, the owner of the property rnoro recently, added apples nectarines, -grape - vines,, and ,other, small fruit trees, air of which, are now making -a. splendid show. . The. grapes., which are growing in the open, aro ihost .attractive and' bearing a. heavy crop. .-Oats,, -maize,' carrots, and cowgrass : cultivated- this season aro doing excellently. -Tho clover grasses on the alluvial flats: are keeping the. dairy herd in Uniformly fiiU 'milk and tho i-yo and' cocksfoot .'on. tho hills' aro feeding' 2$ sheep per acre and supporting 100, head of. cattls and .horses, 'in splendid condition. As .therb, are .hundreds of .thousands of acrcs of land with theso-capa-bilities on both: sides, of the AVanganui River, extending from Taumarunui towards Lakp Taupo, . extensive' and prosperous settlement'. will follow rapidly as tho country becomes occupied and Taumarunui. must become a. very important ceiitro in . the. early,, future;
