HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

(From Our Special Correspondent.) Yesterday afternoon tho Petone Municipal band gave a concert on the Petone Recreation Ground. Included iu the programme were tho two contest selections "V Ai'ricaiue" and "Falstaff." Between 300 and 100 people were present. Anniversary services in connection with tha Pctone Primitive Methodist Church were held yesterday. Tho morning and evening services were taken by the Rev. Mr. Bailey, and, in the afternoon the Rav. J. T. Watt was the preacher. A special feature was the finding of the children under the conductorship of Mv. Burd. The Hutt River Board has decided, that .in view cf the material decrease in legal and engineering advice required by tho board, at its ordinary westiugs in future it will be unnecessary for the solicitor or engineer to attend. Should the b'jard wish to have the advice of either on any matter coming before them, they will be advised and requested to attend. Tho board at the same time expresses its appreciation of the good work performed in their interests by the solicitor and engineer. A large committee has been formed to further tho interests of at Taita. The officers elected are:' Mr. J. Field (chairman), Mr. G. Mabeg, jun. (secretary), Mr. K. Watt (representative to the Electoral Council). Tho Petone Woollen Mills picnic at Day's Bay on Saturday "was attended by about 300 people/ Tho winners in the sporting event? were as under:—Married Ladies' Race, Mrs. Ball, 1; Mrs. Grant, 2. Swimming' Race, H. Hope, 1; T. Price, ,2. Young Ladies' Race, Miss Mellward, 1; Miss Moorland, 2.; Novelty Race, H. Hugh, 1; T. Dent, ,2. Married Moil's Race, A. Wright, 1; F. Ball, 2. At tho Petone Council meeting to-mor-row nigbl Councillor Piper will move the follcr.ving motion, pursuant to notice:— (a) "That tho resolution adopting the engineer's report at a meeting of tho council held on January 9, 1911 be rescinded"; (b) "That all reference to the failure of Mr. Meyrick's gas supply bo deleted"; (c) "That the report with this alteration ho adopted."
