MEN'S BROTHERHOOD.

$ . ADDRESS BY MR. HODGE, M.P. Mr. John Hodge, M.l\ for the Gorton Division of Lancashire, addressed.a gathering of the Wellington Men's .Brotherhood at the Druid's ilall yesterday afternoon on tha • aims and objeets of tho Brotherhood and tho relations of the Church with Labour... Tho • Rev. E. O. Blamjres presided. Mr. Hodge,, who was warmly, applauded, took as his text the Book*-.of-Numbers, Chapter XIII, dealing with tho mission of the envoys sent by Moses to spy out the land of Canaan. Ho stated that it was had for individuals, as for nations, to get things done too'easily for them, and that in striving for the attainment of. high ideals we ourselves became stronger. Tho Brotherhood movement had ari*eufrom the fact that people re-, regarded* it •as bringing back to the Churches- a lost ideal. The Churches had not been taking that interest in the everyday affairs of mankind that they ought to* have t'aken. In the Old Country the organisation dealt with drink, unemployment, sickness, and other social questions, and did a vast amount of good. The uprising nf the Labour party had been the mentor of the .Churches, and it should be * remembered that Christ; in His mission on. earth, attended to the human as well as tho spiritual side of the affairs- of His followers. On the motion of Mr. Kershaw a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Hodge for his address. ■[ *,
