OBITUARY

MR. G. H. F. ROLLESTON. The news of tlio death of Mr. 0. H. F. Koileston, resident in Wellington ns British Trado Commissioner for New Zealand, caused deep regret in the' city yesterday. The late Mr. Itolleston, who was only 39 years of'age, was quite well up till a couple of weeks ago, when lie was eagerly anticipating the pleasure of a trip to England, the British Board of Trade having, in accordance with a set policy, advised him to proceed to London for examination. The illness which was serious from the outset, developed rapidly, and after a week's confinement death took place. Mr. Koileston was the third son of tho late Hon. William I?oIleston, 1 tho last Superintendent of the Canterbury province, lie was born at Linwood in 1871, was educated at Christ's College, Christchurch, and' on leaving school entered the Bank of New South Wales, in which he served in Wellington r»nd elsewhere. On the outbreak of war in South Africa, Mr. Rolleston joined tho colours, and proceeded to* the seat of war as a trooper in the Fourth' Contingent. He turned out a good soldier, and whilst 011 servico* received a commission, and later rose to (ho rank of captain. At the conclusion of hostilities, Mr. Rolleston was appointed Magistrate at I-ichtenburg, South Africa, and while there married' Miss Iris Bell, tho second daughter of Mr. H. 1). Bell, K.C., of Wellington, who, with an infant son, survives him. Mr. Rolleston was appointed British Trade t Commissioner in 1908, the duties of which he performed with marked ability. Ho. was ah extremely bright and affable man, and well liked by all with whom JlO came in contact. . ,
