'A DEFINITE STATEMENT. Yesterday it was stated in thesS columns that Cabinet had authorised the payment to Captain Seddon of .£IOO for distribution in connection with tho extra work involved in the correspondence - between ' the Defence Department, and the applicants for appointment, to positions under the new defence scheme. The Dominion' suggested that the Prime Minister should either correct or confirm the rumour.- Nothing was available from tho Prime Minister's office yesterday, though last evening our contemporary repeated tho statement as a definite news item, adding • that the payment was a payment to Captain- Sed.don himself, and was. recommended by tha Commandaiit.
