Communication, by means of a telephone buoy has been established. The crew are alive. They have sufficient oxygen to keep them alive for forty-eight hours, Tho salvage steamer Vulcan, with a large crane, has gone to assist in the rescue work. HOW ESCAPE WAS EFFECTED. GOOD DISCIPLINE MAINTAINED. (Rec. January 19, 1.15 a.m.) Berlin, January 18. Twenty-seven of the crew of the submarine U3 have been saved. They crept through the torpedo tube when the bow was raised. The commander and two others remain in the oonning-tower, which is submerged. There is every prospect of their rescue. Tho crew were perfectly calm. They donned their life-saving helmets and suits, and entered the tube, the youngest member going first, and then the others according to their' ages.
