OVERCROWBED SCHOOLS.
THE CHILDREN'S HEALTH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Dunedin, January 18. At a jneeting of the Education Board to-day reference was made to overcrowding in the schools in. and around the city, and in a lesser degree in country schools, especially in the infant departments. Applications were received from the North East Valley,".Albany Street, and Forburj. Schools for increased accommodation. It was decided, that the Minister of Education be requested to visit the schools in company with adeputation of board'mem-' bers, or, in the event of his being unabld to attend, the Inspector-General be re< quested to come. ' In the course of di&« cussion,' 111'. M'Kinlay expressed the opinion that the time was opportune for the erection of separate, infant schools. Th# Hon. T. Fergus'(chairman of the board) said the .overcrowding was so serious that the health officer would be -justified in turning one-third of tho children out of some classes. The Minister was perfectly aware of the. conditions prevailing. Tho whole trouble was confined to infant classes;' there Ming plenty of accommoda« tion fo'r higher classes.
