PUBLIC SERVICE SUPERANNUATION BOARD.

A meeting of tho Public ServiceSuperannuation Board was held on January 12. A committee was set up to inquire into rates of interest allowed by tho Public Trustee on investments of the Superannuation Fund,- and as to the necessity of amending the regulation providing for the investment of the fund, also as to the charges made by that office for dealing with tho fund. A committee was also set up to draft a regulation dealing with officers on leave without pay, and tho amount'to be paid by them while absent on such leave. Tho enrolment of certain officers, in the Postal and Mines Departments was considered, and timo was allowed in which to pay up, tho arrears of contributions.'. In view of the coming elections of members of the board to be held in March, 1911, scrutineers were appointed to act for such elections. Tho decision of the Supreme Court on the. question of members of the Police Department who aro now- merged into the Public Service Superannuation Fund beiug able to pay for broken servico under the Amendment Act of ISOB was considered by tho board, and it was decided to publish a notice in the Police Gazette stating that applications to pay-for such broken servico would be> considered. up to March 31. A committee was set up-to consider the question of the appointment of medical practitioners to examine officers who applied to .retire as medically .unfit and generally as to such retirements. Tho secretary reported to the. board on tho state of the fund on December- -31, 1910, tho amount to credit of the fund on that date" being 16s. Oil., being an increase of .£105,675 7s. id. on the corresponding quarter of last year. Tho Claims Committee brought up their report on'the claims of thoso applying to be retired as medically unfit and on ordinal*}" retiring allowances, which, with one exception, w#to approved by tho boqrd. The totals of the retiring allowances and annuities to widows ami children on tho schedules for the board meeting on January I*2 were as follow:— Ordinary, 9, involving an annual liability of <£785 125.; medically unlit, 10, .involving an ininnal liability of .£623 25.. lOd. ,* widows and children (5 widows and 7 children), ditto, ,£181; total, XISS9 lis. lOd.
