The weather has been generally unsettled and squally at times, with a a'ood deal of cloud and rain in places. The depression which was centred to the' west has decreased in intensity, however, and, excepting the southernmost districts, fairer weather conditions have ruled to-day. Tho winds have been mostly moderate to strong southerly asd westerly, but variable at times, and a gale wao experienced in Fovcauj: Straits last night and early this morning. Present indications arc for moderate to strong southerly and westerly winds with a slowly-rising barometer everywhere. The weather will probably . remain unsettled for a-time and showery in parts especially in tho southernmost districts of tho South Island. . . " D. C. 'BATES.
