The president ; agreed : that' Mr. Crnckahank .had been one of the, most valued members of the committee. It .was eventually, decided, on the_ motion of-the ohairman, that'-the resignation; be. held over until .the end' of-the year./ , Various Committees. • The report of the meetings of the Horse,-' Advertising, - and other. Committees wcro read.' , The. Advertising Committee recommended/the . holding or a picnio on the riew-'showgrOunds prior to the show, with a view to. advertising the'beauties of the now ground. This. proposal was approved by' the General Committee,' and the necessary arrangements were made, accordingly. It' was ■ decided to -invite Messrs/-W. . C. Buchanan, M.P., A. W. Hogg, M.P.,'together with tho Mayor and others, to give adflresses at the picnic. : Finance.The report of the meeting, of the Finance 'Committee, at .which -Mr. J. B. Moo'die presided, was also read. Accounts amounting to -JJS2B 6s. Bd. wera_ recommended for payment. Tho receipts for the-month had amounted to ,£73 3s. Tho debit balance at date'ywas shown,.to bo 10s. 3d. ; The - Ground.' Committee ; was authorised , to' have tho' grandstand floor concreted, at a cost not exceeding J5120." Ground Committee. Tho report of-the meeting of the Ground Committee,' held in tho morning, was read/ • At this meeting Mr. AV. J. Welch had,-.occupied the chair.. A'letter was Tend-from the clerk/to-tho County Council, grafting permission ,to construct a water-race across Railway Road, fori the' purpose of supplying -water to tho Solwaj property. Tho, matter of procuring Hags was .left in 'the -hands of the Building Committee. ' 'l'ho Building;'Committer were' empowered.,to have, the floor in ■tho grandstand -laid down in; concrete or asphalt. /Tho -chairman' reported ; that euitablo horse- stalls were 'being ' erected for members' .horses. Arrangements wcro also being made to allow of non-mem-bers 1 ' horses and vehicles being put up ■at-the salo yards adjoining,.the-ground.-. Tho chairman of the committeo . re-] ported . that the railway Biding was well, advancod,'-'- and' the Railway 'Department iad no..doubt that- it would bo completed in- time for the-, show. The Building Committee-was authorised to provide.a bicycle-stand on. the ground.. Grandstand. Mr. W. J. Welch, chairman of . tho Ground •Committee,. reported- that the, cost-, of; the .grandstand, when completed, ■would bo ,'i15434.. The amount allocated for. the-purpose had been =62000, and tho committee had suggested concreting tho iloor . of the-..stand. There was also'a quantity of material on hand. •Mr. 0. C.' Cooper stated that, when everything on tho ground was completed, tho overdraft would bo only .£54,200. Tho Building Committee was working well, ■within its means, anil everything was proceeding satisfactorily. .^. The Building .Conjmitteo was authorised .to construct a' band rotunda on the ground, it being reported that the Muni-, cipal-Band had offered to devote its fee for playing for tho day to the cost of the work.
