Ywterday afternoon a barque was sighted making for Wellington ' Heads. She proved to be the Helen Denny, commanded by Captain P. -Holm, ten days out from Newcastle. The Duchcs-s left tho wharf about 7.30 p.m., and succeeded ia bringing the "wind-jammer" inside to an anchorage in the stream at about 1 o'clock Ibis morning. ULIMAROA LEAVES SYDNEY. ■ ■ Messrs. HIMITANGI FROM THE CHATHAMS. At an early hour this morning the Himitangi arrived back from her special trip to tns'Chatham Islands. The vessel left hero at 3 p.m. on January 10, and has thus taken 5 days 22 hours on the round trip. MESSAGE FROM THE SEA. 'On August 7. m whilo tho' .R.M'.S. Aorangi was 300 miles east of Brisbane, oa a voyage from Vancouver to Sydney, a passenger named Parlo threw a bottle overboard containing a message, and has now received a letter from a young lady stating that sho picked up tho bottls- on Stradbroke Island, North Queensland, on November 15, 1910. The bottle had been drifting about in the ocean a littlo over 15 months, and the message lias been returned to Mr. Parle in ar» good condition as when it was cast adrift. THE SCALES 'LINE. Yesterday tho Scales chartered steamer Clan Shaw was duo at Port Pirio from South" Africa, and after loading concentrates will come to New Zealand to load for Dunkirk, London, and Antwerp. . Tho Clan Menzies i 3 due at liunbury about January 22 to load a full cargo of jarrah for Auckland, Wellington, and Lyttelton. She will subscQuently load in New Zealand for the United Kingdom or Continent. / At present the Clan Grant is in port here loading wool and general cargo for Home ports. Sho leaves Wellington either to-day or to-morrow for Auckland, where she completes loading.

The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's steamer. Matatua, which is now on tho waiting berth at Dunedin, is expected to leave the southern port about January 20 to load at northern ports for Home. Mr. H. Wiiyburnc, late chief officer of the Takapuna, has been granted a month's holiday leave. Mr. A. S. Young, fourth engineer o! tho Mararoa, leaves the vessel at Lyttelton this trip, and proceeds to Port Chalmers to be married. Tho Parisiana, which is overdue at Melbourne from New York, is on her first voyage. She is one of the Empire Transport liue of boats, and was to be renamed after this voyage. Tha F.-H.-S. Line are tho vessel's local agents. She is due hero on or .about February G. Mr. J. E. Page, late second officer of tho Koonya, has joined the Pukaki in. a similar capacity, and Mr. C. H. Frost has gone ashore, for ,orders. LAn arrival in port yesterday at 7.20 p.m. was tho Mokoia from Dunedin and Lyttelton. Tho vessel berthed at tho Taranaki Street Wharf to discharge her cargo, which consists of Wirth's Circus. To-day the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Turakina is' expected to char Wellington for Lyttelton, at which PDrt she has 2CCO tons, of Home cargo to dischafgc.
