Masterton is among tlio districts 1 from; which complaints . liavo c'oine. ' ... \ . Tho pest is far, less troublesome hero than.in England and Australia, in parts of-which • countries it is serious. ' _ R-ecently .an Australian paper published tho following information as-ad-vice in. tho- matter "of dealing- with the :blow-fly pest:— "Mr.. J. D. Low, Plains;, announces, a very, successful .means which ihc has adopted in minimising tho blow,fly post,-which pest has for somo tiinq,'being 'tho bano of sheep-owners. Mr. fLovr, observing that trappers-.dip rab-r.bit-skins .in arsenic, water to keep j-weavies, etc., out, decided to add sugar : .to tho preparation, and immerse therein the.carcasses of freshly-killed rabbits as iw?Il as tho. skins, leaving tho former in 'the vicinity of tanks of dams whero ■flies congregated-' Tho proportions used are: Arsenic 3Jlb., soda 71b., and sugar /61b. ■ The arsenic ,and soda.are'put in a ■ kerosene, tin nearly filled with- water, wliich is'allowed to boil for a quarter of ;an hour.- It has to bo stirred occasionally and the'sugar added and stirred..: Tho mixture must be left, simmering for another hour. . Mr. Low states that tho number.of. flics' killed is truly, wonderful. He advises the mixer not to inlralo tho preparation, nor to. allow it to get into cuts or sores." . • SOUTH ISLAND DAIRY ASSOCIATION. (By -Telegraph—Press. Association.) Ciiristchliroh, January 13. .The annual confercnco of the South Island- Dairy Association was held at Lyttelton yesterday.Mr. John Gray (Jlata'ura) presided. A clemonstration of butter and chceso grading was given in tlio.cool store by Mr. S. Bowman, Government Grader, in the morning. At. the business .meeting in the aft-er-Eoon, Mr .-'Bowman suggested the formation, of cow-testing associations. It was decided to appoint delegates to confer with tlio North Island Association oil patters of interest to tho industry.
