, Sydney, January 13.. lr During-yesterday's storm tho wind attained a velocity of 53 miles an hour. In tho harbour shipping was much inconvenienced. Many buildings wero unroofed. , At Orange, gas-holders full of gas wore blown over, and the town is dopending on a small inadequate holder for its supply. Rain continued throughout last night, and at 9 o'clock this morning Bin. had been recorded in 21 houh. RAIN CEASES. i (Rec. January 13, 9.20 p.m.). Sydney, January 13. The storm has blown out, and tie rain has ceased. , Flood waters caused considerable damage in the low-lying suburbs, and the gale was responsible for a fair amount of -havoc among buildings, fences, and trees round the city. In the country some phenomenal falls of rain wero recorded. At- Nowra over thirteen inches fell. At.latest reports the Nepean, Hawkesbury, and other coastal rivers, where heavy floods 'wero threatened, aro receding. Arriving vessels report having had a rough time in the gale. NORTHERN RIVERS IN FLOOD. (Rec. January 13, 11.40 p.m.) Sydney, January 13. The Hawkesbury River rose 27 feet abovo its summer level, and the water was several feet abovo the flooring of the bridges. A wide area of crops has been inundated, and some of the residents wero forced to leave their homes. Considerable damago was done along the Nepean Valley, and tho' railway bridge at Warialda was washed away. Reports from the country districts aro meagre, owing to telegraphic interruptions. It is believed that the Northern River districts suffered a good deal.
