THE CENTRAL MISSION.
GRATIFYING PROGRESS^ • Tho quarterly meeting of tho Management Committee of the Central Mission was held last Thursday night in the Herbert Street Hall. Tho Rev. 15. 0. Blaiuires, who presided, said that, a record carolling effort by the Silver-Band had resulted in'a considerable reduction' of the instrument debt. He reported alio a successful appeal for "Christmas sunshine" for the poor and needy, and generally a spirit of hopefulness among tho mission workers. Membership returns showed a. net increase of seven during tho .quarter, besides 15 on trial. Ordinary current expenses were £20. below receipts. Messrs. J. \Y. Coeksedge and C. J. M'Pheo were chosen as circuit stewards for the coming year. Tho retiring circuit, steward, Mr. H. Baker, was heartily thanked for his services, and ap-pointed-representative to tho annual Methodist Conference at Christchurch, with Mr. E. Tonks as, substitute. The principle of tho Bible-in-Schools League was heartily affirmed, but pending the decision of tho conference no further action was taken in tho matter. Tho question.of tho personnel of tho Finance Committee was referred, on the motion of Mr. J. Lomas, to tho Council for Church Extension.
Hie Brotherhood and Sunday School reports were considered satisfactory Messrs. Coeksedge, M'Phee, Weston"' and, E Baker were appointed .to the Musical and Elocutionary Competitions Committee.
