. / ELECTION OF OFFICERS. At tlio adjourned half-yearTy meeting of tho'Painters' Union tho following .officers wer.e appointed:—President, Mr. F. Cornwall; vice-president, Sir. J. Kay; treasurer, Mr. M. Glading (all unoppos- . ilr. H. Bolton ivus re-appointed auditor. Tho only election was for mombers of-the management committee, for which there-were seven candidates. The ballot resulted in Messrs,- Craigie, Dunn, and Graham being elected. Tho incoming oxccutive were instruct-' ed to renew tho agreement with the secretary according t-o tho rules, which provide for that office being a permanent one, subject to a propfcr agreement, to bo approved by the union. The opinion was expressed and given effect to, that if tlio secretary was to carry out his duties according to instructions it was unfair to havo him come up for election annually. If he does his duty impartially ho must necessarily make enemies of both employers and employees, and members considered it was not right that a few malcontents with grievances should bo nblo to pack a meeting and throw out a mail who -was doing his best in tho interests of tho members generally.
