CHRISTCHURCH WOOL SALE.
COMPETITION SLACK. (By Telegraph.—Press - Association.! Chrlstchuroh, January 12. The. third wool sale of this season's series commenced' to-day, when 19,778 bales were. catalogued, about 3COO less than at tho corresponding sale last year. The .broken weather during the past month causing interruptions in shearing prevented a good deal of wool from coming forward.. A number-of station clips were .submitted, but the selection as a- whole was not ■ satisfactory from the point of view of condition. The bulk of the wool was very dirty,- and compared with tho condition of last year's- clips there was a: difference of Id. to ljd. per lb. in value. There was a. large and representative attendance of buyers, though there-were not so many present as on the two previous occasions. Tho competition was very slack as compared with the November act!■ December soles, "Itost of the buvern appeared'to be'sitting tight, especially'tho Bradford and French sections. The-prin-cipal operators were, the woollen mills, Gesman representatives, and tho local fellmongers. The solo did not improve as it progressed, • and ■ about one-third of the offerings'was passed in. Host'.'of the best, Corriedale wool failed to reach owners' reserves, acd a considerable proportion of the .best wool' in • the largo hn.lfbrcd ar-rt crossbred- clips was also passed in, only tho inferior wool and pieces in these clips being sold.
