There is a growing feeling' in Blenheim that some .very'great pressure will bo required to bo brought to bear upon the Government before' the South .Island Main Trunk line is pushed on more vigorously. Tho "Express," in the course of a leading article, says:— "The people of the north aro not asked to' ngrcb that the South Island Main ■Trunk lino is the most important in. the Dominion'. What tho people of Marlborough and Canterbury want is tho Government tc -rcdeein the promises made by tho late Mr. Seddon, by Sir William Hall-Jones, and by Sir Joseph Ward, that after the completion of the North Island Main Trunk ' line the southern' trunk would be vigorously pushed on till the ends wero joined. Performance still limps haltingly after promise, and. in the meantime other lines—local lines niany of them —are being rapidly constructed."
Tenders arc invited by the Miramar Borough Council for the erection of a meter house and chamber in connection with the water, supply scheme.
