His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, arrived in Christchurch from the north yesterday morning, and left by the first express for Invcrcargill. Today his Excellency will go across to Stewart Island, returning to Invcrcargill at night. On Saturday morning Irs will motor to Winton, and in the afternoon, he will turn the first sod of the Invercargill tramways. Lord Islington will spend Sunday in Invercargill, visit Mataiira next day, and go on to Dunedin iu the evening. A visit will be paid to Mount Cook before his Excellency returns to Wellington, a little less than a •'fortnight hence. His Excellency is accompanied by Mr. K. Kerr Clark, private secretary.-Press Association. ' .

The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward), with his private secretary (Mr. Jas. Hislop), arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning, and left for the south bv the first express. The Prime Minister accompanies his Excellency the Governor on his southern ■ tour, and will atl.':id the various functions in' which Lord Islington takes part. Morton,- paid a l --visit of inspection .to the now reservoir'at Solomon's Knob yesterday afternoon. .The big undertaking is on the point'of .Completion, and has every appearance of being an excellent job. Already the structure has stood severe tests/one of which was an inflow of'water which half-filled the basin. At this stage' the concrete '• had not hardened properly, and the work was a long way off completion. However, the main wall stood the strain without any apparent difficulty. . ' . '

He has also appointed tho Rev. Spencer H. Elliott to be AssistantMissioner. Dr. Neligan was Vicar of St. Stephen's, Paddington, from'lß94 to 1903, when he - ; was consecrated as Bishop of Auckland. He resigned lastyear on account of ill-health.
