N.Z. LABOUR PARTY.

EXECUTIVE' APPOINTED. The Wellington main branch of, the Ngiv Zealand Labour party met in the Trades Hall last evening. In the absence of tho president-elect (Mr. D. M'Laren, M.P.), Mr. E. J. Carey presided, There, was a large attendance, of members. A letter was received from the Auckland branch o£ tho Labour party stating that good progress was' being made with tho work of organisation in that centre. The Wellington branch was asked to outline its proposals in reforeneo to the question of organisation, and tho matter of contesting the forthcoming municipal elections, 'l'ho secretary was instructed to reply intimating tho intention of the local branfch in connection with the matters written about, and congratulating the Auckland branch on tho progress made. ■ ; In response to a circular issued to tho whole of the Wellington unions asking for nominations of suitable persons to island in . the Labour interest at tho forthcoming municipal elections, replies wero received from several organisations, and the following names were submitted: Messrs. D. M'Laren, M.P.; A. H. Hind-, marsh; Mr. J. Reardon; E. J. Corey, W. T. Young, W. C. Noot, F. Eevling,' T. Smith, W. J. Jordan, P. L. Muir, W. H. Hampton, A.' H. Cooper, and J. P. Butler. "X motion that tho parly contest tho whole of the fifteen City Council seats was defeated, after lengthy' discussion. It was agreed that tho election be contested with a Labour ticket ui eight members,, as in the last two municipal elections. Nominations of "further candidates for selection will be received until January 25 nest, on which date tho 6nal selection will be made, at a mooting of tho party, by a system of preferential voting. An 'election of officers, which was conducted 011 the preferential voting system where voting was neressary. resulted as follows:—President, Mr. D. M'Laren, M.I 1 .; vice-president, Mr. W. Whyte; general secretory, Mr. J. W. Kay; financial secretary, Mr. L. Eoardon; treasurer, Mr. F. Gordon: trustees, Messrs. M...T. Keardon, and F. Cornwall; committee, ■ Messrs. E. J. Corey, W. .1.
