. GOOD YEAR IN BRITAIN. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright London, January 9. The newspaper "Economist's" summary Of trade for the year 1010 states that 775 British Industrial companies showed a profit of forty-seven and a half million pounds, compared with forty-two and a half. millions in 1909. The ordinary capital totalled *£375,000,000, which earned 7 per centum. Preference Capital totalled .£206,000,000, and earned. 4.55 per centum. The spm of''£10,718)000 of the profits was placed to' reserve. Tho iron and steel industries showed no improvement, owing to competition among tho companies,-and strikes. Good harvests helped the shipping and cablo companies. Tho high prico 'of cotton prevented the boom being spectacular. As anticipated, the prices. for other commodities were the highest for twenty years, excepting ip tho summer of 1907.
