Ob the motion of Councillors Masters and M'Kenzic, the Manawatu City Council has cordially endorsed the movement of the> Palmerston Hospital Board to pro-, curi* a supply of radium, as recommended by the medical staff, provided, that tlia use of it shall 1)0 open to rill.. ■ The council is of opinion that it would be better, to Taise the funds by means of a levy upon the local bodies (not exceeding ,£3000) in preference to raising the money by public subscription. At present there is ,'a pretty general, complaint about the state of the road leading up to the Mountain Hou&e (says the Stratford "Post"). At tho first gate the road was in a very bad state, having become .very much cut up, but this trouble has been remedied Tjy forming a slight donation, which misses, this rather soft spot. The road further 011 is in -fair order, but can'do with some' i attention; and if the weather'suits, and he is free from othe/ - duties, the care-.j taker Intends to do a lot of patching during this week. . He hopes to.be able'to have the path in good order by tho end of the. week. 3lr. Christenson's chief concern at present is to get the road in repair, though he hopes soon to'make a start, on tho new track to the Ctfrtis Falls.
