A westerly storm area enveloped tho country on Saturday evening, and westerly pales were afterwarde prevalent southward of Kawhia and Castlepoint. A westerly calo is reported this evening at Farewell Spit. Thunderstorms occurred in parts, and heavy rain fell on tho West Coast of the South Island- and in other parts. Pre- ' sent indications aro for squally an( j pjjow- ' ery weather in parts, with variable winds, . but inoderato to strong southerly winds prevailing shortly everywhere, and fair ' weather probably following.
