WHEAT SHIP LOST.

The ship Ardencraig (2153 tons gross), with a cargo of wheat from Melbourne, went ashore during a fog at the Scilly Islands. . ' She afterwards suddenly rolled over and foundered in view of a large crowd on the' shore. The crew had . already taken to the boats, and they 'wore afterwards saved. HOW THE WRECK OCCURRED, . (Rec. January 9, 10.20 p.m.) London, January 9. The Ardencraig called at Queenstown, and was ordered to Calais. • Distress guns fired at the Bishop lighthouse led to , the launching of the St. Mark's and St. Agnes lifeboats.
The fog lifted half an hour, after the vessel struck, and watchers on the Scilly Islands sawjthe Ardencraig drifting with her foreyard aback. An hour later she rolled over to port and foundered.
There was a sensation ashore till the boats were. seen, alongside. -
Captain Dunning states that ha thought he was 20 miles from the Scilly Islands, but really was only three miles.
When the ship, camo off the rocks there was nine feet of water in the hold, and he decided to abandon! the vessel, as it was impossible to save her.
