SUPPRESION OF OPIUM TRADE
THE INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS By Telegraph Press Association—Copyright. London. January 6. An International Congress to consider the question of the suppression of opium meets at ,The Hague on May 30. Great Britain will propose that morphia and' cocaine be included in the prohibition list. Tho'conference is being called at the instance of the United States Government. Tho draft proposals of America are comprised in U articles. Tho proposals include the enactment of uniform laws respecting the control and distribution of .opium and its derivatives, a reciprocal right to search vessels suspected of carrying contraband goods, tho prohibition of the cultivation of tho poppy in countries which do not at. present produce it, tho prevention of export to countries desiring the prohibition, of the use of the drug, and the compulsory notification of all shipments. Finally, it is stipulated that the penalties for all offences against the international regulations shall be uniform in all countries.
