'A petition is in circulation for tho transfer of a portion of the upper ;Wangaehu district from the "Wangaivui to the -Rangitikei Countyj in return for a. portion of tlio latter. The change is considered to be greatly for the benefit of tkoso concerned, but for some not very apparent- reason tlio Wanganui Council has always opposed it, and is about to deputationiso the Rnngitikei Council on tho matter.
Twenty-nine applications have been Teceived from all parts of the Dominion for the position of Borough Engineer. The council will not deal with them till next meeting. . • Thb Castlecliff Freezing Works have resumed work after the holidays, and are very busy preparing for the next shipment by tho Star of. England, ii} sabout a fortnight's time.
