WELLINGTON CIVIL ACTIONS.
RETURNS FOR THE PAST YEAR. Civil, business conducted at the Wellington Magistrate's Court during 1910 shows a substantial decrease when tlio figures aro compared with, those for tho previous year. The following are the total figures with those for the previous yoar in-parentheses:—Plaints entered, 5530 (6710); cases heard, 2063 (2300); amount claimed, £80,839 14s. (£108,903 16s. 4d.); amount recovered, £37,665 14s. 63. (£51;836 Bs.). In cases where Europeans were plaintiffs and Maoris defendants 46 plaints were entered, and 19 heard, the amounts claimed totalling £661 lis. 2d., and tho amounts recovered £386 9s. 2d. There was only one case .of a Maori plaintiff against a European defendant-, this being a claim for £200 that was • not heard. In one. case Maoris only were concerned, the sum of £94 14s. being claimed and recovered in full. Tho great bulk of the cases, concerned Europeans onljy Of this class, 5488 plaints' were entered, and 2Qtl3 cases heard, tho sum-of £79,883 Bs. lOd. being claimed, and £37,184 lis. 4d. being recovered.
