Suits seeking the dissolution of tho Atlantio Shipping Conference under the terms of the Sherman Anti-Trust law ara beginning in the United- States Circuit Court, New York. The companies forming the Atlantic Shipping Conference are: The Steamship Line. The International Mercantile Marine. The International Navigation Company, 'The Canadian Pacific Company. The Cunard Company. The British and North Atlantic Cob* pany. Tho Hamburg-American Company. The Holland-America Line. The North German-Lloyd Company. , The Bod Star' Line. The White Star Line. . The Russian East Asiatic Line.
The Government charges alleged that, the companies entered into an illegal' contract in February, 1908, in London, arrogating to themselves the power to apportion all trans-Atlantic traffic pro rata, and imposing heavy fines on members of the conference if they violated the agreement. I It is alleged that the Russian Volna. teer Fleet', with its New York-Libau service, was driven out of business, and a Russian-American company forced to enter the conference under penalty. , If the confereuco is not dissolved the j United States Government will refuse to allow the companies' vessels to clear from. any American ports.
