STRANDED IN LONDON.
■■ . »— . .Formerly a well-known London oarsman, who won, the Doggett's Coat and ■ Badge and other coveted prizes, Henry Arthur Audsley, who arrived in London on October 20 from Toronto, en route for Australia, applied recently at Tower Bridge for advice. ' An hotel proprietor in Toronto persuaded him, he said, to deposit the bulk of lis money with him j for'safety, and accept in exchange a cheque on the Clapham branch of the London find ■■South-Western Bank. He handed over 750 dollars, and as soon as hp reached London he went to Clapham, opened an account with .£ls, the balance of his money, and paid in the cheque. In due course he received a letter from tho the bank stating that the cheque had not been' met. Ho had sent-a cablegram to the hotel proprietor demanding an explanation, but had'had no reply. All that, he had left was 155.,' and >he was stranded in London. The Magistrate asked the police to make inquiries..
