IDENTITY ESTABLISHED.

SECOND VICTIM OF CITY FIHE. In the hope of placing beyond doubt the identity of the second victim of the fire at the Wellesley dining-rooms, SubInspector Norwood had a further search of the ruins made yesterday, and the result was the discovery of ,£1 2s. Old. in money, and a notebook. Both the money and the notebook wore found near the bed of tho second victim,. and showed signs if fire and water, but the notebook was in a wonderfully preserved condition considering the ordeal which it had been through. It was. the means of proving as correct tho supposition that Patrick Meban was tho second man who perished in the lire on Monday night. The following entry was in tho first page of the hook:—"Patrick Meban, Drumnaugh, Carnlough, County Antrim, Ireland."

Another entry contained an address which was apparently that of deceased's brother: "David Meban, s.'s. Morian, cans Mr. Itobertson, West Miles Street, Glasgow." There was also a card, ;an envelope addressed to deceased at Ahaura, and several , addresses of persons in different parts of tho Dominion. An 'entry that holped to prove the identification was: "Andrew \ Mclintock, Lyall Bay, Maranui."

"Mr". MTintock was found yesterday, and informed the police that ho had been brought up on the next farm to Patrick Meban-in Ireland, and knew him well. Mr. M'Lintock was able to identify the liody, as he remembered that Meban had some .teeth missing, and, when he saw him on Sunday last, he had long locks of hair, and a short moustache.

' It appears that deceased came to "Wol-ling-tonfrom:Duiiccfih on December 3 last. He. had a ticket through to Westport, but remained in "Wellington to look- for work, and it is understood that' ho badbeen employed at the Patejit Slip for some, little time. He. was at his. friend's place at Lyall'Bay on Sunday last.

The funerals of both* of the victims of the fire will take place to-day.
