TOURNAMENT AT PAHIATUA. (By Telegraph—Special Correspondent.) Pahiatua, January 3. Iho seventh annual open championship and handicap tournament meeting of'the Pahiatua Lawn Tennis Club,, which commenced yesterday, was continued to-day in showery weather. The entries for this year's gathering constituted a record, 1/9 being received, as against 101 last year. Thero was a largo. atteiulanca of the public, .and >01110 excellent piay was witnessed, notably in the Combined Championship Doubles between Rowe and Miss Ryan and Sv.'ainson and Miss R. Hughes. The following aro the results ot the finals played (the other events will be concluded to-morrow):— ; Ladies' Handicap Doubles.—Mrs. Warden and Mis? Williams beat Miss R. and Miss t. D. Hughes, 50—36. Combined Championship Doubles.— Rowe and Miss Ryan beat Swainson and Miss 'R.' Hughes, o—7. Men's Championship Doubles.—Pearso and Gawith • beat Swainson and Druce. 2-Hi, 6-3, 6—4. Championship Singles.—Swainson beat Pearse, 6—3,. o—l. ■ •
