WAIRARAPA RACING - CLUB. SECOND DAY OF SUMMER MEETING, WAIWAREWARE WINS BIG RACE. The concluding' day's racing of the Wairarapa Racing Club's Summer, meeting, on the pretty: Tauherinikau course, proved a thorough success. A hot sun shono all day! although a slight shower fell during the afternoon. The attendance was satisfactory; but. not as large as on'the opening day, and the speculations showed a fallirig-off in consequence. The fields were good all round, except in the juvenile Handicap and the' Russell Handicap. Lady Islington arid a party from the vice-regal residence Were 'on the lawn during the afternoon. The big. event of the day, the Racing Club Handicap, was carried off by Mr. ' A. Tocker's mare, Waiwareware, who won from Passive by a' ; neck, after a capital finish. Backers of Foreshot, Wiuner of the Wharopapa Hack Welter, were, rewarded with a handsome return on their investment, but it was fortunate for them that Vite did not commence bis run a little before ho did, or the might have been altered. Another fine-race was the Russell Handicap. Although there were only four competitors, the race was a most exciting one, Mataari getting the verdict by a neck. The one regrettable incident of the irieoting' arose in the Tawaha Hack Handicap. Succession, winner of the Riniutaka Hack Handicap on the first day, opened a hot favourite, but before the ■ start Whitestone .was installed favourite. When Succession was left standing. at the post owing, to his turning round just as tlio barrier was being raised, severe • comment'- was heard all over the course. After tho race the stewards met and : inquired into the matter, but,no.decision-was come to, the inquiry being adjourned to enable more information to,bo.obtained. The sum of .£SOBI was passed through the • totalisator during the. day, as against .£6601 for the second day. : of'tho Inst'Summer meeting. The totalisator receipts fbr the two days Were. .£lllß less than for the last Summer meeting. A' total of -,£165 was received in. bookmakers' fees yesterday, five being licensed inside and four outside.
