Fortunately a buoy was floated out to them, which sustained them, and a' number of others, by linking hands, formed a living chain, which finallv rescued them. They had a terrible time," however, fighting in the surf. The excitement on the beach during the rescua operations was intense. ■ . There is almost a total lack of lifesaving apparatus oii the beach, but as the outcome of the occurrence, and with a view to prevent a repetition, of previous accidents, a life-saving club is being formed, and an ajipeal made for funds to purchase apparatus. f .
