— » : — " ■ AN ENJOYABLE DAY. ' Upwards of 3000 people , were attracted to Fetone Beach ' yesterday to ' witness tho gala end aquatic carnival held there. A; ■ efronjj northerly wind, somewhat .marred (h« day's outing, but th? arrangements were very good, and the joint Citizens and Boating Clubs Committees carried out the. programme without a hitch. A party of ladies connected with tho Heretaunga Boating. Club added to tho pleasure of the day by ■dispensing nfternoon tea. Special mention may also be made of the submarine explosion which was a feature of the day's sports. After tho usual warning had been given the. button was pressed and tho punt (anchored over the spot) \vss instantly blotvii"to atoms, while tv fountain of water' v;as' projected some 300 ft. or 100 ft. into tho air. All the competitive events were well contested, and the handicapping, in tho switmnihß events .appeared to' be particularly pood. The' following arc the winners in tho respcciive evcuts:—
