WAIKANAE HACK RACING CLUB,
ANNUAL MEETING. ■A JOCKEY DISQUALIFIED. The annual race meeting of the Waikanac Hack Racing Clilb was held on the Waikanaa. course yesterday. Though the weather-looked threatening at times, no vain foil to mar tho day ;for . those who journeyed to .the course as picnickers. It was a record attendance, and the -gate receipts showed that something like 2000 people were present. . Eight were licenced to "bet' at .£5 os. cash, and their fees, together with the increased gato receipts, will givo the club a much-needed lift financially. The arrangements for the meeting were capably managed by Mr. J. A. Muir, • and the club's stewards on tho single occasion that they wero called together, appeared to fatisfy the public hy the manner in which they dealt with the question before them. The racing, however, left, a good deal to bo desired, and the finish of the principal raco so disulcascd the spectators that they expressed their feelings in no uncertain terms, and it. looked at one stage as if tho proceedings would bo abruptly terminated. St. Amelia gained about six lengths at the start, and led to tho homo turn, wliero Rongomai and Inveran closed up. Rongomai ran wide,' and carried Inveran out, and St. Amelia gained an advantage, which enabled her to finish a neck ahead of Rongomai, who finished second, with .his mouth open. A demonstration against the rider of tho second horse was followed by a meeting of' stewards. -'Gray, tho rider of Rongomai, was disqualified for six months, and the bookmakers were 'ordered to refund all bets on the-race. • NGARARA HANDICAP, of 10 sovs. Four furlongs. , . , Mr. A. At the start the favourite got away some lengths to the good, while Kougomai was left. With this advantage, Lifeline just won by a neck from Rongomai. Time, lmin. Isec.
