At the Bootmakers' Conference to-day tlio following motions were carried:— "That tlio congrcss consider the question of cancelling registration under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. In the event oil congress coining to a decision no action to be taken until the Federal Executive has taken a vote of the federation oil tho question/' "That a' committee consisting of delegates from each branch secure evidence on the present system of working in various factories and report to tho branches, which shall elect a comniittec to draft a quantity statement." "That branches be recommended to put tho sum of 2s. per-mem-, ber into a political fighting . fund, branches to have full jipwer to spend the fund,as they think fit in connection with the New Zealand Labour party."* VITAL STATISTICS., Dunedin, January 2. The vital statistics for December.are as follow:—Births, 143; deaths, 45; marriages, 77. The following are'the figures for the whole of last year:—Births, 1725; deaths, 85G; marriages, 652. The figures • for the previous year . werd:— Births, 1744 ; deaths, 795; marriages, 642. The marriages for 1910 constitute. a record for Dunedin, the previous best being 664 m 1908. N.Z. EDUCATIONAL iNSTITUTE. Hokitika, January 2; The annual meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute .commenced here to-night. The members to the number of about sixty were welcomed by. Mr, H ; L. Michel (Mayor), secretary of the Westland Education Board. The president. road the customary address,. -The' conference is expected to last until Thursday.
