PARAPARAUMU NOTES.
ICapiti House has boon full all through the holiday season, visitors, being present from town and elsewhere. Tho lino now local hall was opened with some eclat last week with a concert and ball (given by tho enterprising proprietor, Mr. B. Weggory). Coronation Hall, as it is etyled,. will seat some four hundred people comfortably, and a fino stage, tho drop sceno for which was painted by Mr. 11. Hefl'er, is ah artistic adjunct. Dressing rooms are also provided,' together with largo club and supper rooms. The contract for tho building was carried out by Mr. Young. .The local ladies have'-fired-'their-;', an-, . liual - competition ' at tjiu butt's tor, prizes given by the' Par'apara'uinu Defence'' Eifle Club. Tho shooting was remarkably good, tho Misses K. ITyde, G. Woottou, and E. Lynch putting up 23 out of a possible 25 at 300 yards. Miss K. Lynch scored 21. In tho shoot off Miss .ifydo won the first prize, Miss G. Wootton second, and Miss E. Lynch third. 'The wea'thcr was .all-that.could.bo :dcsircd, and a large gathering assembled to watch tho 'proceedings. 'It .is tho intention of tho ladies of Paraparaumu to challenge the ladies of Hauterc and To Horo to a friendly rifle contest. A' new telephone exchange has been erected here, and it is said to be the most complete and up. to date on tho coast. ... Next week the 'local store and post oflico will be in the hands of a contractor for repairs and additions of an extensive nature. It is apparently time that tho Government built a uioro suitable post' office here. -• • • , Several new buildings are now in course of erection or finished. Amongst the latter is Mr. Wade's handsome residence on the liuhepeliu Road. A large addition is also being inado to the State school. Messrs. and tho Misses Dowsett (2) havo left "Willow Bank',' on a visit to friends at Masterton. The cricket match between tho two rival clubs, I'araparaunui and Waihoanga, will take place next week on the ground of the former club. Good scoring;- is expected. Haymaking, which has been in full swing for the past week, is now finished.
