STEAMER FREIGHTS AND FARES.
NO IMMEDIATE INCREASE! By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright. Melbourne, January 2. Mr. Edward Northcote, chairman of the Steamship ; Owners' Association, states that there .will be no.-immediate increase in freights, or fares as the result of the new agreement with the Seamen's Union. No doubt, however, tho matter will bo considered in due course. • Tho increases agreed upon will mean additional expenditure amounting to .£12,600 annually. Other, recent awards and agreements,. including those concerning officers, cooks, stewards, and engineers mean a total increase of £35,600. ,
