The number of fires that have'recently' occurred; in tho city were supplemented yesterday by further serious outbreaks, one occurring in Ghuznce Street, shortly after 4 a.m., and 1 the second-in Johnston . Street, about. midnight.- The brigade received the call, to Ghuznee Street at 4.21 . o:m., to>-an 8-roomed dwelling, occupied by " Mr. Walter Thorpe and own-edby Mr. A. Levy. Before the alarm was given the firo had a good start, and despite _ some smart work by. the brigade the building and. conteuts- wero.badly. damaged, while ~the buildings , on. ; either side had also, suffered, to some extent.: The cause of the firo is unknown.. . Insurances on tho . building were not ascertainable list evening; but.it is known that the contents ..were covered by a policy for .£3OO in the .Guardian. Offic», eight-roomed ; dwelling, owned' ,:byjMr.:- A. Levy; 134 Ghuznee Street, had the side wall damaged. :This is occupied by , Rebecca Rodgers, who -had no insur- ; ance on tile contents. On the other sidn of. the building an-eight-roomed dwelling, .owned byMr..' Freeman, jeweller," Man- ■ neis Street,, and 'occupied by Mr. Andrew : Manhire,-was;also affected by. the blaze. ,the side wall, and roof being demaged.
