Hodgkins) remarked to a Dosiimox reporter, that births- and, marriages/during. last year showed a steady , decline until tho winter was :past. -.The' improvement that then took place; was attributable; in his opinion,''to the increasing prosperity of the people. _ Statistics of births and marriages ■ -Especially marriages—were. one. of the best barometers ■of general prosperity or otherwise.
