: To-day will mark-.the. beginning, of• "new .enterprise by tho Union Company, for-at. noon the fine steamer Mokoia'will leave,.the Queen's Wharf . the initial excursion; to the , Marlborough .Sounds.; -.'For' years, past residents across Hhe'. Strait .havo desired such excursions,, and last year . tho .. Union Company endeavoured to meet that wish, but met with insufficient support to ■ warrant-undertaking.the expense of dispatching ono of their larger vessels. This year,- however,;the. hook ; ing has. been exceptionally heavy, 'aiid when the Mokoia loaves to-day sho will .. .he. a full shin.- It' is now reasonably tbat this pioneer, excursion will be tho forerunner of others. As for itinerarj', the vessel 'wilkfirst .visit Pictonj.and after; a stay p.t this beautiful little port she will, steam through Queen/Cha-lotte Sounds and thence out round Cape Jackson between the Chotwode Islands and the mainland into tho Pelorus Sound. '
An added attraction will be the opportunity of landing and visiting some of tho Bpots.in the Sounds made famous by . Captain Cook's historic visit..
