Accused evidently had a grievance,- which he was told to seek redress for by legal methods. .Instead of doing so, be insisted on leaving the ship illegally, and eventually tho .agent of the -ship -(Mr. Wood) gavo him in charge. The Bench te accused): What have you to say? . .■;■ .. "Accused: "I have-a lot'to say. I 'have been told to get out'of the ship '■ on more than one occasion by the engineers." He had been.- practically chased out of the ship. ' Ho; gave no cause for that treatment; The food supplied on tho vessel, he said, was not fit to bo eaten; the living apartment was not properly illuminated at night-time,-ana, besides, tho ship'was shorthanded. He and another man had themselves -fired her. shorthanded ever since she had been in the'colonics. The presiding Justices, Messrs. Do Maus and Watson, sentenced accused to fourteen days' imprisonment; but he will'.be put on hoard the vessel if she Sails.:before;the term expires.
